Eurycoma Longifolia Benefits

Malaysian men have long claimed eurycoma longifolia tea improves sexual abilities and youthful energy. Now, scientists have confirmed these claims by learning this traditional medicine contains powerful chemicals that have a potent effect on the body.

Eurycoma Longifolia and Testosterone

The chemicals in eurycoma longifolia are proven to affect testosterone levels. In a recent study, researchers gave 76 patients with late-onset hypogonadism 200 mg eurycoma longifolia for one month. [1]

Eurycoma longifolia improved aging symptoms in these men. In particular, it increased the percentage of men with normal testosterone levels from 35.5% to 90.8%. Therefore, eurycoma longifolia is found to increase testosterone in those with low levels.

Eurycoma Longifolia and Sexual Function

Eurycoma longifolia improves various aspects of sexual function, leading to greater fertility.

In one study, 75 patients took 200 mg eurycoma longifolia for 3 months. Follow-up semen analyses showed eurycoma longifolia improved sperm quality. It also allowed for 11 spontaneous pregnancies (for 14.7% of the patients). [2]

Eurycoma Longifolia and Athletic Performance

In one study, 14 men performed a strength training program for 5 weeks; 7 of those men took 100 mg/day eurycoma longifolia. The treatment group showed a significant increase in lean body mass, from 52.26 kg to 54.39 kg. The treatment group also increased in strength by 6.78% (the placebo group only increased by 2.77%).

Compared with placebo, the treatment group also produced 2.92% greater reduction in muscle electrical activity, and increased mean arm circumference by 1.8 cm. These results suggest eurycoma longifolia may benefit athletic performance, particularly muscle strength and size. [3]

However, the sample size in this study is small, so more studies on eurycoma longifolia and athletic performance are warranted.

How to Take Eurycoma Longifolia

Dosages between 100 mg and 200 mg a day have been used safely in human studies. As with any supplement, talk to a physician before beginning eurycoma longifolia supplementation. [4]
